Now the festive period is well and truly over for another year, it’s time for another update on what Cumbernauld Environmental Society have been doing over the last few months.
Since the last update on this page in early October, we’ve been busy behind the scenes working towards our next few community projects, all the while continuing to liaise with other like-minded community groups operating in Cumbernauld, and with representatives of North Lanarkshire Council.
A major priority for the group is the establishment of a community plant nursery and further allotments. We have looked at a number of sites in Cumbernauld with a view to using the land for a community nursery but unfortunately the land hasn’t been suitable. However, we will be meeting with a representative of North Lanarkshire Council later this week to ask for suitable land to be donated to Cumbernauld Environmental Society for this purpose. We are also continuing to look into a number of funding options for this.
In line with our ambition for a community plant nursery and allotments, we visited ‘Shettleston Community Growing Project’. We were very impressed with the work that has gone into their project and left with a number of ideas for our own proposed nursery.
And to further the awareness of Cumbernauld Environmental Society within the local community, we will be holding an information event in the Antonine Centre, Cumbernauld, on Saturday 10th March. For this event we are also looking to link up with, and work together to promote, local community groups with environmental aims and ambitions. We will be having an evening meeting in Cumbernauld College on Tuesday 21st February at 7:15pm, where we hope as many local community groups as possible will come along and work together with us to promote some of the great environmental work being done right across Cumbernauld by all like-minded groups.
And our “meeting minutes” page has been updated with the minutes from our October and November public and committee meetings.
