Following another successful awards season, Cumbernauld Environmental Society has formally recognised the invauable work of local community groups with their very own “Beautiful Cumbernauld” awards ceremony, held on Tuesday 9th October at Dullatur Golf Club.
On arrival, all guests were presented with a copy of the Beautiful Scotland Portfolio which Cumbernauld Environmental Society designed and collated, as well as a copy of the marking sheet so they could see for themselves the positive comments of the judges.
The ceremony was opened by Chairman, Bobby Johnstone, who thanked everyone for coming along before highlighting the tremendous achievement in maintaining a Silver Award in the Small City category. Bobby then passed over to interim Vice-Chair, Adam Smith, who delivered the same presentation which was given on the day of the Beautiful Scotland judging. The presentation captured some of the great work which has been carried out by numerous dedicated community groups and hard-working individuals over the last year, and was designed to showcase the achievements of Cumbernauld in the Beautiful Scotland themes of Environmental Responsibility, Community Participation, and Horticultural Achievement.
Following the presentation, Professor Frank Clark CBE; Chair of Social Care and Social Work Scotland, former Director of Strathcarron Hospice, and member of Cumbernauld Rotary Club; presented each of the groups who were involved with the Beautiful Scotland judging, with their own framed copy of the Silver Award certificate.
Awards were presented to Carrickstone Care Home, Cumbernauld Village Action for the Community, Friends of Cumbernauld House Park, Cumbernauld YMCA/YWCA, Watch Us Grow, Condorrat Community Council, and Ken Wilson of North Lanarkshire Council for Westfield Recycling Centre and Broadwood Loch. Dullatur Community Council and Friends of Cumbernauld Community Park weren’t able to attend and will be presented with their award at a later date.
The evening was a great success and was enjoyed by all. As well as the presenters and receiving groups, in attendance was Gregg McClymont MP, Jamie Hepburn MSP, Councillor Allan Graham, Councillor Willie Goldie, and Councillor Stephanie Muir.
This was the second annual Beautiful Cumbernauld Awards Ceremony delivered by Cumbernauld Environmental Society and details and pictures of the evening will feature in next year’s Beautiful Scotland Portfolio and Presentation as we go for that elusive Gold Award.
And Cumbernauld Environmental Society were delighted to attend First Minister’s Questions at the Scottish Parliament on Thursday 4th October, as guests of Jamie Hepburn MSP. All members of the group had a great time at Holyrood and we thank Jamie for his invitation.
