Beautiful Scotland 2013

When the Beautiful Scotland judges visit Cumbernauld on Wednesday 7th August we will be celebrating some of the work carried out by dedicated community groups and individuals throughout the last year. Beautiful Scotland is a fantastic initiative and we welcome the positive publicity the campaign gives Cumbernauld through the recognition of our community spirit and civic pride. Cumbernauld’s best ever award from Beautiful Scotland has been Silver, an award we have collected for the last five years, but we hope this year’s judging tour will allow us to beat that with either a Silver Gilt or a Gold Award.

With so many great projects carried out over the last year by hard-working local residents, projects including the new play park in Cumbernauld Community Park and recent Cumbernauld Town Centre landscape improvements carried out by Watch Us Grow, it would have been impossible for us to include them all within the few hours we have been allocated, but we believe this year’s planned judging tour is strong enough to put us into contention for that elusive Gold Award.

The judges will visit the planned site of Greenfaulds Community Orchard, Ravenswood Local Nature Reserve, Hope Community Garden, Cumbernauld House Park, Cumbernauld Glen, where they will find out about the Cumbernauld Living Landscape project, and Cumbernauld High School Eco-Garden.

The Beautiful Scotland Award Ceremony will take place on Friday 6th September in Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom where the results will be announced and our certificate awarded. Fingers crossed we do well and that the judges can see the hard-work being carried out throughout our town to make Cumbernauld a better place to live.
