At last month’s Cumbernauld Environmental Society meeting, Reach CSG discussed their plans to drill an exploratory borehole at Deerdykes to evaluate the possibility of extracting coal bed methane gas in the area. At our next public meeting, on Tuesday 24th June at 7:15pm in the Royal British Legion premises on South Muirhead Road, we will welcome a representative of Friends of the Earth to explain their position on drilling for unconventional gas extraction.
At our following meeting in September, after our summer break, we hope to moderate a respectful public debate between the two opposing views of Reach CSG and Friends of the Earth, with input from Scottish Water, the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), and North Lanarkshire Council. Hopefully we can all expand our knowledge of the proposed borehole drilling processes and work towards mitigating any potential environmental damage.
