Centenary Fields Status For Peace Garden

In a ceremony held earlier today (Sunday 22nd May), Cumbernauld Community Memorial Peace Garden was formally declared as a Centenary Fields site. Centenary Fields status is a legally binding agreement, in this case between North Lanarkshire Council and Fields in Trust, to protect and preserve the Peace Garden site from harmful development in perpetuity.

Cumbernauld Community Memorial Peace Garden has been designed, constructed, and maintained by local volunteers, led by Cumbernauld Environmental Society, and formerly overgrown site next to Greenfaulds Bowling Club now includes commemorative benches, public artworks, flower beds, lawns, and tarmac footpaths throughout. Development and maintenance of Cumbernauld’s newest greenspace will continue for the foreseeable future.
